The Mac Motorcycles' Ruby is a new, from the ground up, lightweight, single cylinder motorbike with a highly individual appearance. The aim was to produce a motorbike with a Harley presence, flat tracker manners and Ducati handling, with nothing surplus to requirements.
It is powered by a 600cc 4 stroke, liquid-cooled engine, built by SWM in Italy, which produces 52bhp in standard spec. It drives the chain driven motorbike through a 6-speed gearbox. Top speed will be around 100mph (161km/h).
The steel tubular backbone and cradle frame, with a triangulated swing-arm are unique to Mac and have been designed and engineered by the company. The 12 litre fuel tank is made from 5083 aluminium. Mudguards, seat-base and hump are all made from ABS plastic but, if the customer wants to personalise their Mac motorcycle, they can also have pressed alloy versions. These can be wet-painted in almost any colour or polished and lacquered for a more classic look.
Suspension comes from a pair of Fastace's 47mm upside down forks fitted with Nitron R1 shock absorbers as standard. The front brake uses a Brembo radial caliper, gripping a 320mm floating disc, fed by a Brembo master cylinder. The rear brake also uses a Brembo caliper, gripping a 240mm disc, again fed by a Brembo master cylinder.
The exhaust is British-made, to Mac's exact design. The entire system is fabricated from stainless steel and designed to meet current noise requirements whilst retaining the distinctive ‘soundtrack’ of a big single. Baffles are interchangeable for track use.
The seat height is 760mm and the wheelbase is 1,430mm.
Since the launch of the Ruby they have added a second model to their range called Rex (images 7 and 8). It has a relaxed riding position, with wider, more upright handlebars and mirrors to suit. The exact rise and width of the handlebars can be tailored to suit the rider. Rex’s seat and tail-section is subtly different from Ruby’s, with a nod to flat-tracker styling.
